31 July 2014 email from Denise Davis [Daniel^7 Van Wicklin is Denise's brother-in-law's great great grandfather] Daniel filed for pension benefits, himself, in 1884. He was eventually granted a pension, but after he died his wife, Julia had to apply as a widow and both Daniel and Julia were turned down again and again as he was classified a deserter from his New York unit. But...eventually both were given benefits. Julia's eventual pension benefits were granted by an act of Congress.
